Ending the Culture of Cronyism at City Hall

Running London in a more business-like and efficient manner

"I will create a Cabinet for London, to run London in a more business-like and efficient manner."
Status Update: Delivered

Mayor Boris Johnson has been running London in a business-like and efficient way since he took office. As a result, he has been able to cut £2bn of waste, thereby freeing up taxpayers’ money (link). To ensure that Boris’s governance is as open as possible, Mayoral decisions are placed online at the earliest opportunity once they are formally agreed (link). Boris has also ensured transparency in decision making by making all GLA expenditure over £500 and decisions relating to expenditure over £50,000 accessible to the public (link). Boris has revised his pledge to create a Cabinet for London as the mayoralty is not, and was never designed to be, a cabinet system of government. Instead, he has opened City Hall and his team up to the same level of scrutiny that a Cabinet would have (link).

A revised approach: Boris has revised his pledge to create a Cabinet for London as the mayoralty is not, and was never designed to be, a cabinet system of government. Instead, he has opened City Hall and his team up to the same level of scrutiny that a Cabinet would have (link).
