BackBoris on Campus in 2012

As the BackBoris campaign moves into the last few months and Election Day rapidly approaches, the BackBoris on campus is picking up even more momentum. Off the back of a spectacularly successful Fresher’s Fair campaign, where we signed up well over two thousand activists, and three months of solid campaigning, the pace is ratcheting up.

Call from home for BB2012

John Moss, candidate for the City & East London Assembly seat, blogs about how telephone canvassing helped win for Boris in 2008.

What could be easier than sitting at home with a cup of tea and making a few phone calls? Well, that's exactly what a few hundred people did in 2008 and in doing so, helped Boris to beat Ken Livingstone.

I joined the campaign team full time in March 2008 and was asked if I could make anything of “a few people who’ve offered to make calls from home”. By polling day, over 600 people had signed up.

BackBoris CF phone canvassing, pt. 3

Last night more than thirty young Boris Backers were joined at CCHQ by Eric Ollerenshaw MP and GLA candidate Chris Hampsheir to call voters across London.

We made nearly a thousand calls and spoke with voters about Boris's strong record as Mayor - cutting crime by 9%, putting more police on the streets, freezing council tax and investing in transport. The response we got was great and people throughout the capital are impressed by what the Mayor has done for Londoners.

Conference telethon reaches 1000s of Londoners

There was a real buzz around the BackBoris stand in Manchester this week. Generating the greatest hum was the chatter of the hundreds of Conference attendees making calls for Boris.

We kicked off the massive two and a half day telethon on Monday morning and made over 2,000 calls per day. By the Prime Minister’s speech on Wednesday thousands of Londoners had let Boris know their top priorities for London.

BackBoris CF telephone canvassing

Young activists took over CCHQ last evening for CF's fortnightly BackBoris telecanvassing session.

The team spoke with voters in the Chingford area, listening to their priorities for London and their views on Boris's administration. Given recent events, it was no surprise that crime topped many agendas. The majority of people I spoke with were pleased to hear about Boris’s achievements in this key area: a 9% reduction in crime generally and 20% reduction in the number of burglaries, plus over 1,000 more police on the streets by May 2012 than in May 2008. In my view, the statistics speak for themselves.

By the end of the night, we had a great pile of completed questionnaires and loads of new sign-ups to the campaign! A fun and productive evening was had by all.

BackBoris telephone canvassing

Yesterday evening Boris Backers manned the phones at a canvassing session in central London to spread the word about Boris Johnson’s record as Mayor and to listen to the concerns of Londoners.

In two and a half hours, we made hundreds of calls. A large majority of respondents were very positive about Boris’s time in charge and keen to see it continue. We even had several requests from people keen to join the campaign as volunteers!
