Transforming transport

Mayor of London Boris Johnson today strengthened his top team at City Hall as he delivers an unprecedented transformation of the capital's transport network. Isabel Dedring will become Deputy Mayor for Transport, while Deputy Chairman of Transport for London Daniel Moylan, who will work with the Mayor to deliver key projects, will increase his time commitment from two to four days a week.

London's Olympic build going swimmingly

The 180,000th and final tile was laid at the Aquatics Centre by Paralympic swimming champion Liz Johnson. The centre, designed by Zaha Hadid and featuring a 160-metre wave-shaped roof, is well on track for an on-time completion this summer. To mark 500 days until the start of London Games, the 26 year-old visited the pool where she hopes to win gold next summer.

Royal Wedding - Live!

Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square will host live broadcasts of the Royal Wedding so Londoners and visitors alike are able to join in the celebrations. Boris delivers on London 2012 preparations

The chief Olympics inspector today praised London's preparations for next summer's Games, saying the capital is at the same stage as Athens was the day before the Games opened there in 2004. The Olympic Stadium has already been completed, trees and plants are taking root around the site, and an entire block within the athlete's village is finished.

Importance of transforming transport

Boris's announcement on the greatest investment in the capital's transport system in 80 years is a major boost for London's commuters. Our Victorian-era underground system had long suffered from neglect and under-investment. This was typified by Labour's disastrous PPP contract which transferred management to Metronet, which went into administration, and TubeLines, which got bought out because they couldn't do the job.

Olympic Stadium - on time and under budget

The Olympic Stadium was today completed in record time, on schedule and under budget, in another success for London's Games. Boris Johnson declared construction of the landmark venue finished as the last piece of turf was laid by Olympic officials. Its completion means London broke the world record for completing an Olympic stadium, taking just 1,000 days to complete the 80,000-seat venue. The final £486million bill came in £10 million under budget.

Boris secures London enterprise zone

Boris Johnson has secured another great deal for London from central government in today's Budget.
The capital has just been named in the Budget as the location of one of the country's 11 new enterprise zones. These enterprise zones will help create jobs and opportunities and make London one of the most competitive environments for business in the world.
