Investing in London's high streets

Boris Johnson was in Harrow, Hillingdon and Ealing today, speaking to local residents about his 9 point plan for a Greater London.

At the Harrow Skills Centre - a partnership between Harrow College and the Local Education Authority that provides vocation training for 14-19 year olds - Boris spoke about point 6 of his 9 point plan: pledging to invest £221 million to transform local high streets and support small businesses.

Hillingdon Sky Ride

Thousands took to Hillingdon's traffic-free streets this weekend during the Mayor's first London Sky Ride of 2011.

7,000 cyclists joined TV presenter Jeff Brazier, the Mayor of London’s environmental director, Kulveer Ranger, Paralympic Champions Sarah and Barney Storey and Team Sky’s Greg Henderson, while many more people came out to cheer on riders of all ages and abilities. The 9km route, taking in some of the area's best known landmarks including Barra Hall Park and Hayes Town Centre, was organised jointly by the Mayor of London, Sky, British Cycling, Transport for London and Hillingdon Council. The day marked the first of three Mayor of London Sky Rides in 2011, including a central London event on Sunday 4th September.
