Boris delivers for Newham

As I go round Newham I can see exactly where Boris Johnson has made a big difference since he became Mayor just three and a half years ago.

Boris has delivered on his promises to tackle crime and keep taxes low. In Newham, crime is down. We now see more police patrolling the streets, and we feel safer as a result. Overall crime is down by more than 6% and robbery by almost 15%. Most importantly - considering the tragic spate of youth murders in 2007/08 -  youth violence is down by almost 17%.

Why, as a Southwark mum, I'm Backing Boris

Ever noticed how drab those old TV series of your youth – assuming you’re of a certain age – seem now? Catching a repeat of ‘Miss Marple’ (the Joan Hickson one) I was struck by how poor the sound was, how faded the setting and the near monochromatic colour.

What does this have to do with Boris Johnson? As a mum bringing up two children in Southwark, for me, it’s not just about facts and figures. Any politician can do those. It’s about what you feel and see with your own eyes.

And I can’t help comparing the buzz London has now with the drab, monochrome divide-and-rule atmosphere of the previous incumbent. I remember his 1980s GLC incarnation, too, which was even worse.

Boris Johnson needs your help to be re-elected on 3 May 2012 and to keep the capital moving in the right direction.

London has come a long way since Boris became Mayor as he delivers on his promises to make London safer, invest in a creaking transport network to make it more reliable and keep the cost of living down.

Boris: 100,000 apprenticeships by end of 2012

With over 40,000 new apprenticeships created in the capital in just over a year, London is the fastest growing UK region for new opportunities, Mayor Johnson announced today.

The Mayor's apprenticeship drive - launched last November and which saw Boris personally write to some of the capital's biggest employers urging them to do their share to get Londoners back into work - has been so successful that he has now upped his target to 100,000 by the end of 2012.

BackBoris CF phone canvassing, pt. 3

Last night more than thirty young Boris Backers were joined at CCHQ by Eric Ollerenshaw MP and GLA candidate Chris Hampsheir to call voters across London.

We made nearly a thousand calls and spoke with voters about Boris's strong record as Mayor - cutting crime by 9%, putting more police on the streets, freezing council tax and investing in transport. The response we got was great and people throughout the capital are impressed by what the Mayor has done for Londoners.

Mayor to young Londoners: Join Team London!

Mayor of London Boris Johnson today called on the 2,000 London graduates of this summer's National Citizen Service (NCS) pilot scheme to join Team London and keep volunteering in their communities.

Through Team London NCS graduates have the chance to give back to their communities, while at the same time they develop skills that could help secure them future employment. Team London is the Mayor's ambitious programme to mobilse an army of volunteers to improve life across the capital and participants work across three key areas - reducing crime in the capital, increasing opportunities for young people and improving quality of life by cleaning and greening the city.

Campus campaign hots up

The BackBoris on Campus campaign is going from strength to strength. After a superb start to the school year with our Fresher's Fair outreach where we signed up over 2,000 student supporters, our new activists haven't let any grass grow beneath their feet and are already out campaigning, organising events and recruiting even more supporters.

Since the beginning of October, we've set up three completely new BackBoris on Campus teams - at SOAS, Birkbeck and Middlesex.
