Westfield Stratford City - open for business!

Mayor of London Boris Johnson today opened the new Westfield Stratford City - Europe's biggest shopping development which will create 18,000 new jobs.

Tens of thousands of eager Londoners streamed through the doors of the new Westfield - a sister complex of the hugely successful west London centre and which forms a central part of the massive regeneration of east London ahead of next summer's Olympic Games.

Share your views on London

A pretty great Londoner (William Shakespeare) once asked: 'What is the city but the people?' before answering: 'The people are the city'. London is the best big city in the world largely because of the people who live in it - you. That is why we want to know how you would take it forward.

As I hope you can tell from this questionnaire we are very proud of what we have achieved over the last three of years. For instance, we froze the Mayor’s share of council tax making taxpayers’ money go further than before. And we have ramped up the fight against crime which is now down by 9% making London the safest it has been for a decade.

Driving economic recovery in outer London

Plans to help boost economic recovery and job opportunities in outer London boroughs were unveiled by Boris Johnson today.

The plans are part of the Mayor's £50m Outer London Fund which aims to transform town centres and local communities in outer London, especially those which benefit less directly from the economic boom of the 2012 Olympic Games and Crossrail.

Boris Johnson leads country in jobs drive

Mayor Boris Johnson is set to meet his target of creating 3,000 apprenticeships throughout the GLA group and its suppliers by 2012.

It comes as figures show in the last year more than 1,100 people joined apprenticeship schemes run by the GLA Group and its contractors, while Boris has also ensured jobs for more than 1,000 unemployed people in the past 12 months by requiring GLA suppliers to deliver job and training opportunities as part of the conditions of winning a contract.
