Mayor Boris Johnson condemns Tottenham violence

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has condemned last night's violence in north London and sought to reassure Londoners, especially those in and around Tottenham, that City Hall and the police are doing everything in their power to resolve and calm the situation.
Mr Johnson said: “I’m appalled at the scenes of violence and destruction in Tottenham. The Acting Commissioner has assured me that the police are doing everything they can to resolve this situation.

Boris RE:NEWs London homes

As part of Boris’s pledge to ease Londoners’ financial burdens and improve the quality of life in the capital, the Mayor unveiled his RE:NEW energy efficient programme which will cut fuel bills for tens of thousands of Londoners.

Through RE:NEW, a free energy efficiency makeover will be given to 55,000 homes across the capital. During May 2012, parts of Barking and Dagenham, Hackney, Lewisham and Waltham Forest, will be retrofitted so that Londoners can save £100s on their annual fuel and energy bills.

Investing in Outer London

Boris today announced the 30 projects across the capital that will be the first to benefit from the Mayor's Outer London Fund.  The projects, across 20 boroughs, will have immediate access to the funds so they can revitalise their town centres and give the local economies a boost throughout the Christmas and New Year period.

First round projects receiving funds include new temporary public art outside Waterman’s Arts Centre in Brentford High Street; refurbishing shop fronts and utilising vacant shops in Enfield; new green space at John the Baptist Church in Chipping Barnet, expanding the Green Lanes Food Festival in Haringey; creating the Bromley Town Centre Heritage Trail; and upgrading pavements in Barnes town centre, as well as enhancement of Christmas lights.

Hillingdon Sky Ride

Thousands took to Hillingdon's traffic-free streets this weekend during the Mayor's first London Sky Ride of 2011.

7,000 cyclists joined TV presenter Jeff Brazier, the Mayor of London’s environmental director, Kulveer Ranger, Paralympic Champions Sarah and Barney Storey and Team Sky’s Greg Henderson, while many more people came out to cheer on riders of all ages and abilities. The 9km route, taking in some of the area's best known landmarks including Barra Hall Park and Hayes Town Centre, was organised jointly by the Mayor of London, Sky, British Cycling, Transport for London and Hillingdon Council. The day marked the first of three Mayor of London Sky Rides in 2011, including a central London event on Sunday 4th September.
