Progress in Hillingdon

By Ann Elder, Hillingdon resident

It’s easy to forget that Hillingdon is just one of London’s 32 boroughs, especially when you live out in Zone 6 and the centre seems so distant. However, Boris has helped the outer London boroughs in a way that his predecessor never did, bringing us closer to the centre so we can share in the jobs and opportunities it has to offer.

London is one of the most dynamic and cosmopolitan cities in the world and increasingly we can enjoy the benefits of the centre (theatre, clubs, universities, shopping) whilst also enjoying the advantages of being close to the countryside (Hillingdon has more green spaces than any other London Borough!)

Boris is addressing our concerns about crime - adding more police officers and more visible police patrols. We have also noticed more police on the buses. The freeze in the Mayor's share of council tax has been a big benefit, as well, as we all try to keep down our living costs.

Crossrail is being built in the south of the Borough in Hayes and West Drayton. These are major investments which bring us closer to the centre and improve mobility and job & training opportunities.

Most importantly, however, Boris kept his promised to oppose the 3rd runway at Heathrow.

It's vital that we keep moving forward and we don't put progress at risk. That's why I'll be voting to keep Boris as Mayor in May 2012.
