Boris calls on young men in London to be mentors

Boris Johnson called on young men to sign up to his Mentoring Programme, aimed at driving down youth crime. Having already achieved a 15% fall in youth crime since 2008, the Mayor remains committed to working with communities to tackle this difficult issue. His mentoring scheme seeks to match black boys aged 10-16 at risk of offending with suitable mentors.

The call came at his third Community Conversation on tackling youth violence, held last night in Brent. The conversations aim to work directly with the communities most affected by serious youth violence. Event attendees got the chance to quiz the Mayor, Kit Malthouse, his Deputy Mayor for Policing, along with a panel of local experts, as well as take part in group workshops.

The next Community Conversation will take place in Haringey on 13 April.
