Keeping Londoners moving
Last week Boris Johnson launched his 9 point plan to secure Greater London's future and he has already started to deliver.
In point 8, the Mayor pledges to reduce Tube delays by an additional 30% by 2015, build Crossrail and an orbital rail to link London's suburbs, as well as extend the Barclays Bike Hire scheme.

Cycle hire scheme expands
With nearly 10 million hires since its launch 18 months ago, Boris Johnson’s popular Barclays Cycle Hire scheme is expanding and, as of 8 March, the iconic bikes will be available for the first time beyond central London.
2,300 more bikes and an extra 4,800 docking stations are currently being installed. The scheme will be available across the whole of Tower Hamlets as well as north Shoreditch in Hackney, Camden Town, Canary Wharf and Westfield White City.

Boris in Brent
What I like most about Boris is he delivers on his promises. I was delighted when he got rid of the bendy buses, especially on the 18 route, as they regularly created congestion. I can’t wait to see the new double decker that is being deployed shortly.

How Boris got me on my bike
I moved to London in May 2008 and made my home in Putney, Wandsworth at the same time that Boris became mayor. Already a very economical and well run borough, I was delighted to see services have progressively improved in the time that I have been here under an established Tory council and the new Tory Mayor.
Proving that efficiency savings are possible, without losing essential services, Boris froze the Mayor’s share of council tax, and in turn, the borough was able to continue to keep the council tax low. This has all been done without compromising on the weekly rubbish collection or closing libraries.

Westminster is better with Boris
The certainty that I was doing the right thing backing Boris in 2008 came as he toured my ward, the economically deprived and ethnically diverse Church Street in Westminster North.
As expected, he was mobbed by supporters - drinkers rushing from a local pub, hollering “Boris! Boris!”, trying to entice him in for a pint. Yet if there was any doubt about the nature of Boris his priorities were quickly laid bare. Politely eschewing the pub-goers, Boris got into deep discussion with passers-by and then market-trader after market-trader, deep-seated concern for the community evident in every exchange.

'Boris Bikes' turn 1
Today was the first anniversary of the immensely popular Barclays Cycle scheme. As the rickshaw is synonymous with Dhaka and the gondola with Venice, now London has the 'Boris Bike'.
The Mayor was at the Shepherd's Bush Westfield shopping centre today to celebrate the expansion westward of the cycle hire scheme. I was lucky enough to see Boris there and hear him speak about his plans for the cycle hire scheme's future:
"The idea is a tank strategy." This left some of us confused, but he swiftly went on to explain that his aim is to expand the bike scheme into the outer reaches of London and the Shepherd's Bush extension is just the start.
